West Girard Avenue in Brewerytown has quickly become a bustling commercial corridor with several new construction projects and renovations recently completed, underway, and in the planning phases. A bunch of cool restaurants and shops have opened along this strip over the last few years as more residents have moved into the surrounding area.

Argo Property Group, who is responsible for a lot of the revitalization happening in Brewerytown, just recently started site work on a new 16-unit mixed-use project at the corner of 26th St. and W. Girard Avenue. The structure will rise 5 stories and the commercial space will encompass 3,500 of the building’s nearly 21,000 square feet.

Ambit Architecture did the design work for the project, which is being called The Bordeaux, and we must say it looks excellent. The traditional red brick will be complimented by modern angles and large windows on every floor. The retail frontage will wrap around the corner of the building and will be enhanced by an overhanging awning.

This project is being constructed on the site of a former vacant lot and two 3-story buildings. The buildings have already been demolished and foundation work should begin within the next couple of weeks. Tester Construction Group is the general contractor for the development.

We really look forward to seeing this project move forward and for another quality retail space to be added to West Girard Avenue. We think The Bordeaux may end up being one of the handsomest new construction buildings along the corridor.

How do you feel about this project? What kind of business would you like to see open on West Girard Avenue?
